On June 26, the world marks the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. Some think of torture as a bygone phenomenon, or at least one which is no longer found in countries considering themselves advanced; but the reality is – unfortunately – very different. In Israel alone, the past year has seen a sharp increase in the number of torture victims. What occurs in torture interrogations in Israel? What lies behind this sharp spike, and how do we end it?
