Accountability Still Denied: Periodic Update – January 2012
In December 2009 we published “Accountability Denied” which described in detail how the Attorney General systematically rejected hundreds of complaints of torture and ill-treatment filed between 2001 and 2009. The report was fundamental to PCATI’s legal and public operations, which today target the various institutional mechanisms which absolve the ISA of responsibility for – and allow the ongoing use of – torture and ill-treatment in interrogations. This update addresses the primary issues on the horizon, describes our ongoing legal struggle against the systematic impunity for ISA personnel and evaluates policy developments since 2009.
